A Grease Management System is a solution needed for any commercial kitchen which deals with high a volume of food, oils and grease. Not having a system in place can lead to drain problems which can further lead to unnecessary costs and maintenance.
Quintex’s Biofix uses a unique blend of tailored, safe bacteria designed to consume FOGs (fats, oils and grease deposits) and food particles. There are many benefits attached to using Biofix in your commercial kitchen, including:
Most large restaurants, hotels and pub chains spend thousands of pounds, yearly on problems related to their drain systems. Fats, oil, grease deposits (FOG) and food particles clog drain lines and grease traps. These cause blockages on-site and downstream too, leading to conflicts with local water authorities.
Biofix from Quintex uses a unique blend of tailored, safe bacteria designed to consume FOGs and food particles; digesting the particles and converting it to CO2 and water, meaning there are no by-products or risks for blockages downstream.
There is nothing worse than a vulgar smell in a restaurant kitchen; it is a huge inconvenience, off-putting both customers and staff members. It can also be a sign a blockage may occur.
Kitchen drains rarely see professional maintenance; most commercial kitchen drains may only receive a clean once or twice a year. That’s enough time for foul odours to accumulate. Fortunately, Quintex’s Biofix provides continuous degreasing and odour management.
There are a number of Grease Management Systems on the market, however, many do not consider the environmental impact. At Quintex, we are determined to aid the environment and encourage proper commercial kitchen waste management practice through our Biofix solution.
Instead of using harsh chemicals that seep into the UK’s sewers and seas, the solution uses a unique blend of tailored, eco-friendly bacteria to digest the issues downstream. Biofix also has a low carbon footprint, supports Green Building and is ISO 14000 certified due to no toxic/caustic chemicals being used.
Drainage issues are the second largest expenditure in most commercial kitchens, the entire life cost of the grease management should be scrutinised before purchase. Biofix is a cost-effective grease management system which requires less shipping costs, less packaging, less storage, less manual handling and less risk of container spills/leaks.
In addition, Biofix is a battery-operated system so there are no extra energy costs.
Commercial kitchens will also benefit from reduced maintenance to drains which would also lead to a reduction in maintenance costs.

Most large restaurants and pub chains spend thousands of pounds each year on drainage system problems. Commercial kitchens are well known for the buildup of FOGs in drains as food particles and residue are washed away, and without the proper treatment, this can be detrimental over time, causing some serious problems in the kitchen. See just how fatbergs can be problematic in this recent article from Sky News.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom. There is a solution that can not only help to prevent those annoying blockage issues that frequent your drain, but it can also be cost effective and kind to the environment. Taking the appropriate preventive measures can help significantly and prevent your kitchen from accumulating drainage issues that could mean your kitchen has to close for a period of time.
If you’re finding your drains are slow running or you’re faced with regular blockages, this signifies that you need to take immediate action. Here at Quintex, we’ve developed a solution to suit any sized system and one that uses a unique blend of tailored, safe bacteria designed to consume FOGs.
Biofix is a low-cost, high-performance solution to grease management, and is the only treatment you need to prevent frequent blockage issues in your drains. Not only is our Biofix solution highly effective, but it also has a low carbon footprint due to no toxic chemicals being used. It’s been developed by our experts to significantly improve grease trap and drain cleaning performance.
Biofix is more effective due to using a unique combination of bacteria and green surfactants to create a controlled foaming action, which extensively coats all drain surfaces, even above the water line, ensuring daily re-inoculation throughout the drain.
Biofix has got you covered when it comes to frequent blockage issues, but how can you go further to prevent blockages from reoccurring?
Avoid washing large amounts of fats and oils down the drain – once cooled down, FOGs solidify, making them the perfect culprits for blocked drains. They can also clog up drain lines and grease traps. These blockages can be caused on site or later downstream, which could create even bigger problems. However, most restaurants will have a dedicated oil bin for recycling to prevent these issues from occurring.
Plug screens – Prevent large food particles and other debris from going down the drain with a plug screen. These particles can then be disposed of separately instead of going down the drain, potentially clogging the flow of water.
Identify warning signs – Bad smells and poor water drainage indicate there is a blockage, so carry out frequent checks to catch it before it becomes a problem.

With more people spending time at home these days, it’s inevitable that this will have had an impact on the amount of waste we produce. Not only that, but the amount of waste we’re producing over the years in general is increasing more than it ever has. It’s saddening just how the environment is suffering because of our negligence, but it isn’t too late to make a change.
You may have seen us shouting about David Attenborough’s latest documentary, A Life On Our Planet, on social media, where we learn of humanity’s impact on nature and just how devastating our actions have been, and continue to be, on our planet. This makes the work we do all the more significant and it’s the perfect time for us to mention Unblocktober, and how you can play your part in saving the environment this month (and hopefully many months to come!)
Unblocktober is the world’s first month-long national campaign and awareness month to improve the health of our drains, sewers, watercourses and seas – driven completely by the British public.
We’ve spent years and years pouring dangerous liquids and items into our drains without even thinking of the consequences. The result of this is the creation of fatbergs, which are huge masses of congealed FOGs (fats, oils and grease), wet wipes, nappies and cotton buds to name but a few.
These fatbergs block drains and sewers preventing them from working as they should, which is quickly becoming a big problem. The main problem of these blockages is pollution, foul waste and flooding and excavation and repair.
Unblocktober challenges all of us to spend a whole month learning about the dangers of blocked drains and just how we can do our part to reduce waste, and hopefully put us all in the right mindset when disposing of those harmful liquids and items!
You can find out more information here: https://www.unblocktober.org/
We’ve already done our part in raising awareness of Unblocktober, but our efforts to promote positive environmental friendliness doesn’t stop there. Here at Quintex, we’ve gone one step further and developed our own solution to tackling FOGs in our drains.
Biofix, our biologically friendly drain treatment, is a grease management system that uses a unique blend of tailored, safe bacteria designed to consume fats, oils and grease. We’re all guilty of allowing excess oil and fat to enter the kitchen drain in our commercial kitchens, but it is time in this age of environmental awareness, to practice proper commercial kitchen waste management, as FOGs can cause some pretty devastating consequences in commercial kitchens.
Nothing can ruin a busy Saturday sales period like the horrors of a blocked drain, slowing down that all-important service schedule and ripping chaos throughout the kitchen.
It doesn’t take long for a small blockage to escalate into a wider scale problem, such as leakages, electrical damage and overflows. These can all be very costly to a business and could even lead to business closure.
Fortunately, here at Quintex, we are experts in preventing drain blockages, so we can help you keep your kitchens running smoothly. We have compiled five of the key alterations you can make to your daily routine to prevent blockages downstream.
It is of utmost importance to maintain proper cleanliness and hygiene in any kitchen environment. One essential practice in this regard is to clear food wastage into the appropriate disposal units before placing dishware into the sinks. Neglecting this step could potentially lead to drains overflowing, which not only creates an unsightly mess but also poses a significant sanitation concern. By adhering to this practice, you ensure that your kitchen remains clean and free from clogged drains, which can be both inconvenient and costly to resolve.
Another crucial aspect of kitchen waste management is the proper disposal of waste cooking oil. It is imperative to use suitable containers for this purpose and establish a regular schedule for a licensed waste contractor to collect the oil. Failing to do so not only risks environmental harm but can also result in the clogging of pipes and drainage systems. Responsible disposal of waste cooking oil not only maintains the cleanliness of your kitchen but also contributes to eco-friendliness and adheres to regulatory guidelines.
To prevent the inadvertent accumulation of waste in your kitchen sinks, it is advisable to place strainers over all drains. These strainers play a pivotal role in collecting any accidental waste that may find its way into the sink, such as small food particles and debris. To ensure the effective functioning of this measure, it is essential to clear out these strainers frequently. By doing so, you maintain optimal drainage efficiency and minimize the likelihood of blockages.
Grease and oil are notorious for causing blockages and obstructions in drainage systems. Therefore, it is a best practice to avoid putting greasy or oily dishware directly into sinks without first wiping and cleaning the items with grease-combating soap. This simple step significantly reduces the amount of grease that enters the drainage system and helps to prevent the accumulation of residue that can lead to clogs. By adopting this precautionary measure, you safeguard the functionality of your kitchen’s plumbing and drainage.
Regular maintenance is essential to prevent the build-up of debris and blockages in your kitchen drains. One effective way to tackle these issues is to use drain treatments on a frequent basis. These treatments are specifically designed to break down and eliminate substances that can accumulate and obstruct drainage over time. By incorporating this routine into your kitchen maintenance, you ensure the continued efficiency of your drains, reducing the risk of unexpected blockages and the associated inconveniences.
By following these tips, you can reduce drain blockages significantly. However, in a busy environment, these steps can become harder to stick to.
This is why we have developed our outstanding Grease management System, Biofix, to keep drains happy and healthy. Biofix is designed to consume any unwanted drain FOGs; the solution is completely non-toxic and perfect for any food environment.
Let us stop drain blockages for good!
